As a Data Engineer you’ll support the implementation and optimisation of the organisation’s data pipelines and workflows, covering the processing and streamlining of financial data and ensuring its validation and efficiency.

What you’ll be doing

As part of your role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Implement and maintain data pipelines to ensure they align with business objectives and support long-term growth.
  • Ensure data systems meet regulatory commitments and that data is reliable and efficient.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and understand data needs across various departments and business units.
  • Develop and maintain data workflows and ETL processes that ensure data integrity, security, and availability.
  • Enforce data standards, policies, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality of data across the organization.
  • Partner with Technology, and other stakeholders to ensure database structures, programs, and applications meet expected requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate data technologies, tools, and platforms to support current and future data needs, including data storage, processing, and analytics.
  • Ensure seamless data flow between internal systems and external sources through effective data integration processes.
  • Collaborate with database administrators and other stakeholders to optimize data workflows, performance, and scalability.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering to enhance the organization's data capabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain complex data concepts, pipeline designs, and project requirements.
  • Implement scalable end-to-end database solutions, including data migration, cleansing, design, resolving constraints and integrating new technologies.
  • Managing documentation and disaster recovery.

Essential skills you’ll bring to the table

The necessary skills that we require for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) working as a Data Engineer or a similar role in a complex data environment.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data pipeline techniques, and data integration patterns.
  • Proficiency in relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., SQL Server) and data warehousing concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering tools and languages (e.g., SQL, Python).
  • Experience with data integration technologies and tools (e.g., Kafka).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure and their data/analytics offerings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior team members.

Desirable skills you’ve got up your sleeve

It would be great if you also have some of the following skills:

  • Certification in data management or data architecture (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Certified Data Architect).
  • Experience with big data technologies and platforms.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and practices.
  • Experience working in Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
