The role sits within our Global Master Data Management (MDM) team and is part of the Data Office, whose primary focus is to ensure the organisation's data assets are effectively managed, governed, and utilised to support strategic decision-making and operational excellence.

As the Functional Data Lead, you are responsible for all aspects of defining, operating, and enforcing the data governance policies and standards, ensuring data integrity, compliance and quality across the multiple data domains. You will work closely with stakeholders to align data management practices with business objectives and regulatory requirements, and promote the role of governance as well as data governance best practices. As well you will play a critical role to deliver data related projects on time and within scope.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Data Governance:Β 

    • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards and procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and integrity of data across the organisation

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal data policies

    • Support definition of data owners, data stewardship and data custodians roles and responsibilities and oversee data stewardship activities

    • Maintain the Contextual & Conceptual Data Models up to date

  • Data Quality Management:Β 

    • Drive initiatives to implement data quality frameworks and best practices

    • Drive initiatives to monitor, measure, and improve the quality of master data, including data profiling, cleansing, and enrichment activities

    • Monitor data quality metrics and perform regular data audits

    • Manage data quality issues and coordinate remediation efforts

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that data governance policies and practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, and mitigate risks associated with data management

  • Roadmap and Continuous Process Improvement:Β 

    • Continuously evaluate and enhance master data governance processes

  • Reporting and Analytics: Develop and implement metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of data governance initiatives, and regularly report on data governance performance

  • Technology and Architecture Support: Evaluate, select, and implement data governance tools and technologies that support data quality, data lineage, and metadata management

  • Issue Resolution: Lead the resolution of data governance issues and data-related conflicts, ensuring that root causes are identified and addressed effectively

  • Project Management:

    • Manage medium and large-scale data projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring

    • Coordinate the process with cross-functional teams and 3rd party vendors

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration between various business units, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for data governance initiatives and strategies

  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to users across your team and the organisation on master data governance best practices, tools, and processes

About you:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of data governance principles, methodologies, and best practicesΒ 

  • Proficiency in data quality management techniques to drive improvements in master data quality

  • Experience with one or more data objects - suppliers, materials, finance, supply chain, manufacturing

  • Proficiency in data architecture principles and their application in supporting data governance initiatives

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to data governance and management.

  • Outstanding communication skills to articulate data governance concepts to cross-functional teams, conduct training sessions, and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes of data governance issues and propose effective solutions

  • Proficiency with data governance tools and technology stacks

  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously, self-driving the data governance work until a full governance team is established. Post team expansion, the ability to work effectively in a team environment with a pragmatic and proactive attitude

  • Expertise in data quality management, including tools and techniques for data cleansing, validation, and standardisation

Nice to have:

  • Experience with SQLΒ 

  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum project management methodologies

  • SAP certifications, particularly in data management

  • Experience in the multinational manufacturing or chemical industry

Salary ranges from 3400 to 4000 euro gross depending on your experience.
